A football story for girls and boys
Sarah Saunders, striker for Lingerfield F.C., and Yonis Ganim, goalkeeper for SLS United, are locked in a tight battle for their under-eleven championship title.
Only 1 point separates their teams at the midway point in the season.
However, as the chase for the championship heats up, both Sarah and Yonis realise there are much more important things in life than just football…
A book for reluctant or struggling readers
If you’re aged 7-11 and love football or sport themed stories then this is a book you won’t want to miss. It’s also perfect for reluctant or struggling readers as well due to the way it has been written and formatted.
Why did I write it?
I started writing Chase for the Championship when I was teaching a year 5 and 6 class earlier in 2019. I wanted them to have a live story to read as the end of the Premiership season was getting so exciting. I wrote about five chapters for them over about five weeks, but then inevitably, ran out of time to finish as the end of the school year beckoned (and so did the school show and reports). I know they enjoyed reading it though and I enjoyed writing it, so I decided to sit down and finish it over the summer break and into Autumn of 2019.
Can I meet you?
I do frequently return to the UK and may be available for school author visits, events organised by bookshops, libraries and literature festivals, so don’t hesitate to ask when I’m next back.
I am however readily available for Skype sessions and am happy to talk to schools or classes about my top tips for writing and publishing a book.
